Josie Scalia
Hairdressing Teacher
Hello, I’m Mrs. Josie Scalia, a passionate and dedicated Hairdressing Teacher at Laurier Macdonald Vocational and Career Centre. With 30 years of experience in the hairdressing industry, I’ve been fortunate to pursue my love for making people feel special through the art of hair. I began my career in 1998 and taught hairdressing for the EMSB from 2002 until 2019, after which I returned to continue my teaching journey.
I specialize in transformative hair techniques, from cutting and mixing colours to creating stunning updos and applying for extensions. My favourite aspect of hairdressing is witnessing the incredible transformations that make clients feel renewed and confident. This passion drives my desire to continuously learn and stay up to date with the latest trends and techniques.
One of my proudest moments as a teacher came in March 2023 when I was asked to train a student for the Olympiads Québécoise des Métiers et des technologies, an experience that showcased my commitment to mentoring the next generation of talented stylists.
In my classes, I foster a supportive and creative learning environment where students can express themselves while mastering essential skills. My advice to all my students, past and present, is simple: never give up, keep pushing, and reach for the stars. Knowledge is everything, and with time, dedication, and perseverance, you’ll climb to the top.
I’m excited to continue inspiring and guiding future hairdressers and am always eager to take on new challenges and opportunities for growth.
